  • MEDA 1100 - Exam Room I

    This course is an introduction to the various instruments and equipment used by the medical assistant in a medical office, along with the use of PPE, proper body mechanics, infection control and office safety.  Students will have an opportunity to identify various office instruments and develop the necessary skills to work with and care for the equipment.  In addition, the student will demonstrate proper body mechanics, infection control procedures, office safety and the correct use of PPE.

  • MEDA 1250 - Medical Office I

    3 credit(s)
    Students will learn about the medical assisting career, working as a healthcare team member, and patient and staff diversity.  Students will also learn about various therapeutic communication and diets, and explain how each can help to control a particular disease state or accommodate a change in the life cycle.  In addition, students will be examining medical law and ethics in the medical office, along with the moral and legal responsibilities of the physician and the medical assistant.

    Prerequisite (taken before): MEDA 1100 - Exam Room I , MEDA 1250 - Medical Office I , and HLTH 1060 - Comprehensive Medical Terminology  
    A study of the relationship involving the healthcare professional, the medical assistant and the patient in the examination room.  The medical assisting student will be assisting with the physical examination, minor surgery, operating medical equipment and administration of medications.

  • MEDA 2330 - Laboratory Techniques & Procedures I

    In this course students will cover general principles and techniques in basic laboratory functions including professionalism, organization, quality and infection control, laboratory organization, safety, phlebotomy, basic laboratory procedures (including CLIA waived testing) and sample specimen collections that a medical assistant may perform in a medical office laboratory.
