Human Services

Program Description

The human services program prepares students to provide appropriate services to those in need, to empower others to help themselves, and to enhance the quality of life for all people.

Student Learning Outcomes

Human Services graduates are prepared to:

  • Apply theories, tools, and skills required in industry.
  • Apply Human Service values and ethical decision-making.
  • Demonstrate research, communication and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrate cultural knowledge and awareness skills to engage with local and global communities in the provision of Human Services.

Admissions Information

Applicants are required to have a college application on file in the registrar’s office. For more detailed information on the admissions process, please contact a program advisor.

Perspective students should be aware that human services agencies may perform criminal background checks, as well as Department of Health and Human Services child abuse and vulnerable adult abuse registry checks. The results of these background checks may prevent employment at that agency or facility.
Individuals considering a degree in the human services and/or chemical dependency should be aware of strict practicum admission qualifications. Criminal Background Checks, Adult Protective Services/Child Protective Services background checks, and a Drug Test are conducted before practicum placement is offered. The College reserves the right to share the results of these background checks with any institution at which the student intends to participate in a practicum experience. This practice is consistent with Nebraska state statutes.

Notes:

  • Immunizations may be required, see program advisor for the specific immunizations needed.
  • Additional program costs will be required for student-in-practicum insurance, a background check, and a drug test.
  • A minimum grade of 2.0 is required for all human services program-required courses and a “C” for all other courses, including general education courses.
  • See program advisor for state-approved coursework that will meet requirements towards specific certifications within the field.
