Purpose
Through a mixture of general education, professional course work, and professional practice at local health care facilities, students gain the knowledge and skills required to collect, analyze, and utilize health data essential to the health-care industry.
The degree will prepare health information technicians to master the entry-level competencies defined by the American Health Information Management Association, which are nationally accepted standards of practitioner roles and functions.
The HIMS program at CCC is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). Students who graduate with the Associate of Applied Science degree in HIMS, will be eligible to take the national qualifying examination required for certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
