HIMS 2510 - Coding I

Prerequisite (taken before): HLTH 1060 - Comprehensive Medical Terminology , HIMS 1250 - Introduction to Health Information Management  and BIOS 1250 - Structure & Function of Human Body I  or BIOS 2250- Human Anatomy & Physiology I  
Study of the purpose and use of the current diagnostic coding classification system.  An introduction to inpatient and outpatient diagnostic coding, coding conventions and principles, and official coding guidelines.  Students will assign current diagnostic codes to various clinical diagnoses, scenarios, and patient records.
