Program Description
Students in the Early Childhood Education program learn to provide developmentally appropriate experiences and environments for children, build partnerships with families and communities and maintain a commitment to professionalism.
Course work includes the study of child development and guidance, appropriate teaching methods, safety, health and nutrition, early language and literacy, child care administration and creative activities for children.
Students develop and refine their teaching skills and techniques through practicum experiences, working under the supervision of a teacher in a child care facility or early childhood program. Students are involved in observing, planning and implementing activities.
Student Learning Outcomes
Early Childhood Education graduates are prepared to:
- Promote child development and learning
- Build family and community relationships
- Observe, document, and assess to support young children and families
- Use developmentally effective approaches to connect with children and families
- Use content knowledge to build meaningful curriculum
- Become a professional
Notes
- With the exception of electives and general education courses, students must earn a “C” or above in all required courses.
- First Aid and CPR are recommended in addition to course requirements.
- CCC works with the Child Development Associate (CDA) National Credentialing Program, which requires 120 clock hours of professional early childhood education. The following courses are required to meet the CDA subject areas:
