PHRM 1220 - Prescription Basics

Prerequisite (taken before): PHRM 1110 - Introduction to Pharmacy Technology PHRM 1120 - Principles of Pharmacology I , PHRM 1130 - Pharmacy Practice Lab  
The student will learn how to read and interpret prescription/medical orders. Become familiar with common prescription abbreviations. Learn methods of receiving medication order and prescriptions. How to determine prescription priority. Understand fundamentals of taking patient profiles, processing of medication orders in different pharmacy settings. Understand time and workflow, stress and change management skills and using critical thinking skills to solve problems common in the pharmacy technician’s workday. Identify different types of medication errors and contributing factors and steps to be done to identify the errors. Understand quality assurance and steps to be taken when errors are identified.
